The Australian National University is widely recognised as one of the world's leading centres of Pacific Islands studies. Pacific scholars in the College of Asia and the Pacific are dedicated to understanding the region's history, politics, cultures, economies, international relations and strategic situation. Many are authors of the key books and articles on the region, travel there frequently, serve as consultants on Pacific issues, and offer policy advice to governments and regional organisations. Graduate supervision and training are also valued aspects of our duties.

As in the past, ANU will be organising a special week of activities for graduate students from Asia and the Pacific in early 2007, supported by The Pacific Centre, AusAID through the State, Society and Governance in Melanesia and the International Centre for Excellence in Asia Pacific Studies. Australian and New Zealand students currently engaged in Pacific studies research at either honours or graduate studies level are invited to attend a three-day Pacific Studies workshop in Canberra at the ANU, from 28 January to 1 February 2007.

The workshop will feature 15-20 minute presentations on any aspect of their research from each of the students participating, while a selection of ANU Pacific Studies staff will offer brief summaries of their current research. Film screenings and guided introductions to research resources and trips around Canberra will also be offered. Some participants will receive financial support for accommodation and meals. A partial contribution to travel costs will also be available to selected participants.

The Pacific sessions will be held in Seminar Room A (map) of the Coombs Building from Monday 29 to Wednesday 31 January.
