Graduate Degrees by Research

Most students at RSPAS are undertaking PhD studies by research, and are attached to departments or centres within the School. More information is available at the ANU graduate programs web site, and by visiting the departments' web sites.

Graduate Coursework Studies

Anthropology Postgraduate Degree

The Master of Applied Anthropology and Participatory Development (MAAPD) is a new coursework degree in the Anthropology Graduate Program. MAAPD started second semester 2001, and has been jointly developed at the ANU by the Department of Anthropology in the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, and the School of Archaeology & Anthropology in the Faculty of Arts.

Graduate Studies in International Affairs

The Graduate Studies in International Affairs (GSIA) program provides an unparalleled opportunity to undertake graduate coursework in international relations with a focus on the Asia-Pacific. The GSIA offers four coursework programs:

  1. Master of Arts (International Relations) (MAIR)
  2. Master of International Affairs (MIA)
  3. Graduate Diploma in International Affairs (GDIA)
  4. Bridging Program leading to MAIR or MIA

Graduate Studies in Strategy and Defence

RSPAS is offering, from the 2002 academic year, three postgraduate award programs in Strategy and Defence. They are:

  1. Master of Arts (Strategic Studies)
    A 3-semester, 72 unit coursework and research degree for students who want the option to proceed to a PhD and who have 2 (1) honours grades.
  2. Master of Strategic Affairs
    A 2-semester, 48 unit, 'professional', coursework-only, degree for those who do not wish to go on to a PhD but who want an advanced Master Degree by coursework.
  3. Graduate Diploma in Strategic Affairs
    A 2-semester, 48 unit award for those with very good degrees, but without a fourth academic year or relevant work experience in strategic affairs.
