Project documents
Project summary Puer tea, from Yunnan, is the most popular among all categories of tea in present day China. This tea is the center of narratives in various cultural circles such as: tea traders, researchers, mass media and consumers. Yiwu, a small town in Xishuangbanna in the south of Yunnan, is one of the original places for tea growing. It has been chosen as my main field area with the aim of vocalizing local narratives about Puer tea. By comparing these different voices, the research aims to discover how the process of Puer tea as a material culture is being mythologized by multiple narratives, and to further examine how outsiders interpret the image of Yunnan through Puer tea.
