Research Seminar - The vegetation of New Guinea: its classification and management
Robert Johns

This presentation discusses the basis of vegetation classification as used in the Papua New Guinea Forest Authority. I will argue that this classification is based on remote sensing and does not provide a useful basis for forest management. New Guinea plant diversity, conservation, climatic change and carbon are briefly discussed and a package is proposed using 'set aside' principles.
