Admissions & Applications


Admission and scholarship decisions are based on an applicant's undergraduate record, any subsequent formal study (e.g. a MA degree), other relevant experience and background (e.g. working or living experience in Asia or Pacific countries, publications, other research achieved, knowledge of language relevant to proposed PhD research topic), and proposed research topics. Language. Applicants for whom English is not their first language must submit relevant English language exam scores or proof of completing a university degree at an institution using English as the medium of instruction and learning.

Prospective applicants should contact the Head of the Department and discuss their topic with potential supervisors. A short research proposal must accompany the application. Applications must be made directly to the University admissions office. Forms are available for downloading in PDF format from the University's web page at http://www.anu.edu.au/graduate/.

The applicant should make sure to submit transcripts of all previous formal education and that referees send their letters directly to the University. Applicants should also include one or two writing samples.
