Taufiq Tanasaldy

Taufiq Tanasaldy

Taufiq Tanasaldy is a PhD candidate in the Department of Political and Social Change, Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies (RSPAS), at the Australian National University. He is currently also a research officer and occasional Indonesian language tutor at the University of New South Wales at Australian Defence Force Academy (UNSW@ADFA).

Taufiq obtained his BA from the University of Indonesia (Jakarta, 1995), and his MA from Korea University (Seoul, 1997). He obtained language proficiency certificates from Beijing Language and Cultural University (Beijing, 1996) and Korea University (Seoul, 1997). He speaks Indonesian/Malay, English, Mandarin Chinese, and intermediate Korean.

Before undertaking his PhD at the ANU, Taufiq was a lecturer in the Department of International Relations at the University of Indonesia.

In 2004, Taufiq conducted nine-months of fieldwork in West Kalimantan, Indonesia for his PhD thesis and has presented his research findings in several seminars in Australia, the USA, and Indonesia. He has also published several articles, two of which have appeared in Global (Universitas Indonesia), and one published in the Korea Journal of International Studies (Korea University). Taufiq's article, 'Ethnic Identity Politics in West Kalimantan', is due to be published in the forthcoming edited book by KITLV Press in 2006.
