About the Conference

The 2009 Vietnam Update is on the theme of migration in Vietnam. It will take place in the Common Room, University House at the Australian National University, Canberra. The conference will begin at 8.30am on Thursday 19 November and conclude on Friday afternoon 20 November.

The 2009 Update will commence with two papers by distinguished Vietnam specialists who will provide an overview of the main political and economic developments in Vietnam in 2009. The rest of the Update will be devoted to thirteen thematic papers that address an aspect of this year's theme: migration in Vietnam. The migration types to be discussed include internal migration, international labour migration, remittance economies and transnational migration. The speakers represent a variety of disciplines and have much experience researching migration in Vietnam. Their papers are grouped into topical panels and a period of time is reserved after each paper for questions from the audience and discussion.
