Biographical Statement
Marjorie is a physical geographer who has worked on arid, tropical, coastal and cold-climate landforms and catchment hydrology. Her main research interests are human impact on landscapes, both current and prehistoric, and a range of environmental, natural resource management and development issues including the links between poverty and environment. An ongoing interest in climate change stems from being a member of the first Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, looking at small island states. She has worked as an academic in Australia and PNG, in land management and on customary land resources and landuse in the Pacific and Asia, and as an adviser to AusAID.
Research Interests
Human impact on landscapes, Quaternary to present; landforming processes in tropical, arid and coastal areas; environmental management; environmental issues in development; links between poverty and environment; development activity designs.
