Biographical Statement
I first studied Russian and comparative Slavonic languages at the University of Melbourne, subsequently turning to minority languages of Mainland Southeast Asia. I moved to Canberra in 1999, and took up an ARC postdoctoral fellowship in 2001. I am now pursuing 2 main lines of research:
- linguistic prehistory of the Mon-Khmer speaking peoples, and
- survey and documentation of endangered languages of southern Laos.
Research Interests
Comparative and Palaeolinguistics, descriptive linguists, Mon-Khmer languages and ethnic groups, Southeast Asian (pre)history, language contact, phonetics, phonology, forensic linguistics, history of linguistics.
