Biographical statement

Jacqueline de Chazal head and shoulders

Jacqueline has a background in ecology, however an interest in the role that social values play in determining evaluations of ecosystem change, has led her to widen this focus to include the social sciences. She is particularly interested in analysing the typically implicit assumptions behind normative terms used in environmental management to better articulate and accommodate their inescapable social context(s). She has worked on a range of topics in this area including ecosystem health, biodiversity, vulnerability, and ecosystem services, particularly in relation to assessing the impacts of climate change. Most recently she has worked in the area of community engagement in relation to biosecurity. Currently she is examining the evolution of policy-driven adaptation in rural communities in south-eastern Australiaunder the auspices of the Environmental Economics Research Hub. She aspires to broadening her research to include South-east Asia.

Recent Media Articles: Australia recruits bush detectives for biosecurity; Canberra tackles biosecurity.

Research Interests

Concepts and methods for including multiple, differing perspectives in assessments of socio-ecological systems; vulnerability assessments; integrated assessments; community engagement; deliberative public engagement.
