Biographical Statement

Jennifer Alexander head and shoulders
I continue to work on four previously funded ARC projects "Trading practices in Indonesia: a comparative analysis (1993-95); "Markets and the State: Java 1890-1990" (1993-95); "The Formation of Identity: an account of relations between indigenous peoples and the state in Central Borneo" (1995-96); "Trading Practices in Indonesia: a comparative approach" (1996-98).

Research Interests

My general interests are applied anthropology and economic development, comparative trading practices, and natural and human resource management throughout Southeast Asia. My current writing is on migration and resettlement; demographic, social and religious change in Sarawak and an historical account of the Jepara Furniture Industry.
