One extra semester is required to complete the thesis component of the MA (International Relations). International applicants with diplomatic status in Australia may also apply for part-time studies.

Can I undertake studies with GSIA by correspondence?
We do not offer studies by correspondence. A key aspect of the GSIA educational experience is the opportunity to work closely with the ANU faculty and fellow students, and to take advantage of the location in the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies.

Can I commence my program in Semester 2?
All GSIA programs have a second semester (July) intake.*

* Full-time students commencing the Graduate Diploma in International Affairs in Semester 2 and wanting to transfer directly to the Master program, will need to take one semester leave or complete the Master program part-time. This is because the Master program core course, International Relations Theory, is only offered in Semester 1.
