Research & Development
We aim to produce a grammar for Indonesian which provide explicit representations of lexical meaning that are grammatically and pragmatically relevant. The result should be computationally processable, and capture the richness of meanings in the corpus (Fillmore & Atkins 1994). An expected outcome of this project is to build an engineering framework to produce computational grammars within the limits of the Pargram Project. We aim to produce a broad coverage of structures, efficient processing, build regression test suites, which in turn will yield a high quality output.
These grammar produced will predict acceptable, less acceptable, and unacceptable structures,
structural alternations and related constraints, and so this testing will lead to more
robust analyses of Indonesian.
Richer Linguistic Analysis
We build on our chosen framework by creating resources such as a grammar and lexicon.
In doing this we aim to achieve deeper linguistic analyses of Indonesian data, including:
- voice alternations
- applicatives and causatives
- reflexives and reciprocals
- interrogatives
- simple and complex relative clauses
- coordinate and subordinate clauses
Multi-site grammar development
The Indonesian Grammar Project is an exciting project because it is the first project to have core members in multiple sites in multiple countries.
