Daniel Biro, BA, MA (SNSPA), MA (Central European University), MScEcon (University of Wales)
Daniel Biró commenced his doctoral studies within the Department of International Relations at ANU in 2004. Prior to this in 2003, as a Chevening scholar he completed his MScEcon in Strategic Studies from Aberystwyth, University of Wales in United Kingdom. His other degrees were obtained in 2002, with a MA in International Relations and European Studies from the Central European University (Budapest Hungary), and MA in International Relations and Conflict Resolution (SNSPA). His Bachelor degree in Political Science was also obtained at the National School of Political Science and Public Administration (SNSPA) in Bucharest, Romania. From January 2007 Daniel, took up the position of Lecturer in International Studies within the School of International Studies, University of South Australia.
Daniel's research interests cover an area ranging from international relations theory, security studies and comparative politics broadly defined. More specifically, his research in the last years included the relation between deterrence and prevention in the US grand strategy, regional security and international interventions reflected both in the theory and practice of 'state-building'. His recent publications include a working paper on warlords as an alternative form of governance in the Westphalian Periphery (INEF Report, 89/2007, Germany: http://inef.uni-due.de/page/documents/Report89.pdf), a chapter on the relation between Strategic Studies, International Relations and Grand Strategy in Marian Zulean and Luciana Al. Ghica (eds) Politica de Securitate Nationala: Concepte, institutii, procese, POLIROM, Romania, pp. 117-131, as well as a number of chapters in the first Romanian textbook on International Relations, Idealism in International Relations, Democratic Peace Thesis, War and Transformation of War in IR and Scenarios for World Order, all chapters in Andrei Miroiu and Radu-Sebastian Ungureanu, Manual de Relatii Internationale, POLIROM, Bucharest, 2006.
