Farewell to the Monroe Doctrine? US policy and Latin Americ

Since the Monroe Doctrine in 1823, the United States has always seen itself as having a special relationship with Latin America. It was a relationship that largely excluded other powers. But Latin America has changed dramatically in the last decade – changes characterised by widespread rejection of the Washington Consensus, burgeoning trade with Europe and Asia and the election of a wave of left-of-centre governments. This talk explores these changes and the US response to them.
