Professional Development

Professional Development courses allow GSSD expertise to be tailored for organizations seeking to enhance their analytical resources. We have a proven record of delivering elite strategic policy programs including for the Australian Department of Defence.

Short Courses for Officials

Who are the courses for?

Participants are usually decision-makers and policy analysts who need to understand the global influences underpinning their local circumstances or practitioners who must grapple with the increasing complexity of their roles in the government setting.

Who delivers the courses?

GSSD short courses bring together leading researchers and practitioners to provide academic rigour combined with a unique ‘hands-on’ focus. You will learn from former officials who have shaped strategic policy, led assessments staff, run ministers’ offices and led the defence force. You will learn from academic experts on strategic affairs, defence budgeting and intelligence.

ANU Graduate Studies

Professional Development for Individuals

Many GSSD courses run in the evenings to allow professionals to complete their Masters studies while undertaking full-time work. We also welcome applications from qualified individuals wishing to undertake individual GSSD courses on a non-award basis or towards the new suite of Graduate Studies programs now offered by the ANU. Full fee payment for non-award study is required at time of enrolment, although the course credits gained can be used later to apply for the GSSD Masters program, provided that these credits are not used in any other degrees.
