Oslo Peace
Scholarship
The International Peace Research Institute, Oslo and The Australian
National University's Department of International Relations, in
partnership with Bjørknes College, are offering a scholarship
for Master of International Affairs Specialising in Peace and Conflict.
The program brings together academics at the forefront of international
relations, peace, and conflict research from two sides of the globe.
Students spend one semester at Bjørknes College in Norway
with faculty from the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo
(PRIO) pursuing courses in Conflict Resolution and Peace-Building,
Ethics of Peace and War, and Gender and War. The international relations
courses are taken at ANU in Canberra. Participants have full access
to the specialist libraries of the Nobel Institute and PRIO.
The Oslo Peace Scholarship pays the tuition fee and provides a
living allowance for both Oslo and Canberra. Full details available

Closing date for receipt of complete application for scholarship
is 31 May 2008 for applications to start in August
2008 and 30 April 2009 for applications to start
in August 2009.

Hedley Bull Scholarship
The Graduate Studies in International Affairs program
offers up to four Hedley Bull Scholarships each year for full-time
study in the Master of Arts (International Relations) commencing
in semester one. Applicants must meet the admission requirements
of the Master of Arts (International Relations).
When
applying for the MA (International Relations), eligible applicants
for the Hedley Bull Scholarship should include a covering letter
indicating their interest in being considered for the scholarship
and making the case for being granted one. The covering letter together
with the application for the MA (International Relations) (including
transcripts and three academic references) will be considered as
the full application for the scholarship. There is no need to provide
a separate application. The scholarship provides a full-fee waiver
for three full-time sessions (semesters). This amounts to 48 units
of graduate coursework and a 24-unit thesis session.

AusAID Scholarships
Overseas applicants from selected developing countries in Asia,
Africa and the Pacific may be eligible to apply for the Australian
Development Scholarship (ADS/ARDS Scholarships).
For application forms and information contact the Australian Diplomatic
Mission or the Australian Education Centre in your home country.
Information and a list of eligible countries can be found at: on

Norwegian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs funds five
scholarships for students in the Peace and Conflict Studies programme
run by ANU, PRIO and Bjørknes College. Students coming from
developing countries that are currently experiencing conflict, have
done so in the past, or are currently at risk of doing so, are eligible
to apply for the scholarships. The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs provides the scholarships in order to help fulfill UN Security
Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security which addresses the
impact of war on women and women’s contributions to conflict
resolution and sustainable peace.
The scholarships cover tuition fees in Oslo and Canberra,
and some funding towards living costs.

International
Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO) Scholarship for Thesis Writing
Master of Arts (International Relations) (MAIR) students who have
incorporated the Peace and Conflict specialisation into their degree
are welcome to apply for the International Peace Research Institute,
Oslo (PRIO) Scholarship for Thesis Writing. The scholarship comprises
a monthly allowance of NOK3,500, plus office space and supervision

The John Dauth Postgraduate Scholarship in International Relations,
for an incoming ANU student beginning graduate studies in
international relations. Valued at $2200 off accommodation fees,
selection will be by the College with advice from ANU. [currently

Grants from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor
The Vice-Chancellor has agreed to make funds available to enable
coursework students to undertake a semester of study at an overseas
institution. Please note: because of the terms of these grants,
only Peace and Conflict Studies students who have studied first
in Canberra before the Oslo semester are eligible to receive travel
funding.
Northcote
Graduate Scholarships (British applicants)
This scheme is to enable students to undertake a graduate
degree at an Australian university for a period of up to three
years. The award comprises a return airfare, payment of compulsory
fees, and an allowance of A$20,000pa. Applicants should be under
the age of 30. The closing date is usually at the end of August.

Family Education Loan [FFEL] Program (American applicants)
The FFEL Program makes loans directly to graduate students. A
student interested in applying for a FFEL must first complete
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.ed.gov
The
Norwegian Government Scholarship Pool (Peace and
Conflict students)
The Norwegian Government, through the International Scholarship
Section (IS) of the Research Council of Norway, offers each academic
year a pool of scholarships for advanced students and young researchers
from certain (non-Norwegian) countries.
Fundación
Beca (Latin American applicants)
Fundación Beca is a private, non-profit organisation that
contributes to Latin America's development by supporting talented
young people to undertake higher education overseas. In 2007,
FB granted around 100 scholarships for study in more than 15 different
countries.
US applicants should be aware that they may not be able to
use US financial aid for the Oslo component of the Peace and Conflict
Studies degree.

Indigenous
Australian Graduate Scholarship
The Graduate School each year normally offers one scholarship
to an indigenous Australian to undertake a Graduate Diploma or
Master degree program, or a PhD program. Benefits include a stipend
(A$18 848 tax-free in 2004), and payment of tuition fees if enrolling
in a coursework program. Tenure is dependent upon the program
for which the scholarship is awarded.

The aim of the programme is to develop lasting links between young

professionals an opportunity to study at a Scottish university.

Australian
Postgraduate FEE-HELP Loan Scheme
FEE-HELP is a loan given to eligible Australian fee-paying students
to help pay part or all of their tuition fees. A FEE-HELP loan can
cover all or part of a student’s tuition fees. A maximum of
$50,000 in tuition fees may be paid using FEE-HELP over a student’s
lifetime. This is the FEE-HELP limit. This limit is indexed each
year. No loan fee applies to FEE-HELP loans for graduate courses.
The Commonwealth pays the amount of the loan directly to the student’s
provider. Students repay their loan through the tax system once
their income is above the minimum threshold for compulsory repayment.
FEE-HELP begins on 1 January 2005 and will be available to all eligible
fee-paying students who are either commencing or continuing their
higher education studies in 2005 or later.
