The Australian National University, Canberra
Eastern Indonesia has lagged behind the rest of Indonesia in terms of economic development and poverty alleviation. This workshop will explore development in Eastern Indonesia in the context of the environment and natural resources.
Leading scholars in their fields are presenting their research, and ample room is given to discussion. Workshop topics include forestry, fisheries, biodiversity, mining, health, as well as local and transboundary issues. In addition, three overview papers explore the current situation regarding economic development and poverty alleviation in the regions of Eastern Indonesia.
We aim to provide a framework for balancing environmental concerns with the need to promote economic development in these very poor regions. The workshop will foster links between Australian and Indonesian researchers and institutions, and it is also expected to complement the Australian government’s development efforts in Eastern Indonesia.
The workshop is free of charge. However, since space is limited, please contact Ms. Lydia Napitupulu at Eastern_Indonesia@yahoo.com.au in order to be invited.
