International Food Safety Regulation and Processed Food Exports from Developing Countries: A Comparative Study of India and Thailand
The Division of Economics in the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies (RSPAS), Australian National University (ANU) is undertaking a three-year project on International Food Safety Regulation and Processed Food Exports from Developing Countries in collaboration with Research and Information System (RIS) in India;Thammasat University in Thailand; University of Melbourne; and the International Food Policy Research Institute, Washington DC. The project aims to examine trade conflicts relating to food safety standards; the role of the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) agreement and the related WTO dispute settlement procedures in resolving these disputes. It proposes do this through an in-depth comparative study of the export-oriented processed food industries in India and Thailand. The project is funded by a research grant of $546,150 from the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). |
