Lecture unit "Chinese Diaspora"

Our course "Chinese Southern Diaspora" is taught to advanced undergraduate and Honours students and will be run in 2007. Enrolments proceed through the Faculty of Asian Studies at the ANU.

Essay prize for undergraduate students

Rules and Procedures
  • The essay should be on a topic related to the Chinese diasporic experience in Australia.
  • Essays should not be less that 2,000 words or more than 5,000 words in length (including endnotes).
  • Three copies should be submitted. Submissions by fax or electronic mail will not be accepted. Each candidate should retain a copy of the submitted essay as entries will not be returned.
  • The candidate must be an enrolled student at an Australian tertiary institution in 2000. Please provide a brief note with your essay indicating what courses you are doing at which institution, with some proof of enrolment (e.g. student record, signature of course lecturer or head of department). Please ensure that a full postal address is included.
  • The essay should be written in a style appropriate for publication. For general style conventions, please refer to the Australian Government Publishing Service's Style Manual for Authors, Editors and Printers (5th edition).
  • All copy, including indented quotations, should be typed double spaced on white paper with at least a 3 cm margin on the left side.
  • The CSCSD will appoint a panel of three distinguished scholars to judge the essays. The panel's decision is final and if, in the opinion of the judges, no entry is of sufficiently high standard to justify a prize, the panel may decide not to award a prize.
  • Entries will be acknowledged on receipt. All entrants will be advised of the winner by May 2006.
