The Contemporary China Centre has since 1970 produced Contemporary China Books - a series of books and monographs that reflect the Centre's emphasis on scholarly social-science analysis of post-1949 China.

Contemporary China Books aim to present some of the research being carried out both in Australia and overseas on modern China, a subject of profound significance in international relations and one that stimulates lively interest and debate.

In 1991 the Centre began a publishing arrangement with M.E. Sharpe, New York, commencing with issue No. 20.
