That was the message and the title of an ethnographic film that was shown yesterday at RMAP’s luncheon seminar presented by Dr. Yunita Winarto, Associate Professor in Anthropology at the University of Indonesia, Jakarta and Academy Professor in Social Sciences and Humanities at the Graduate School, Gadjah Madha University, Yogyakarta. It is the story of farmers in the region of Indramayu, West Java, Indonesia, who are taking matters in their own hands, breeding their own seeds to achieve more sustainable cultivation methods despite local government breeding station resevations and in response to the recent introduction of hybrid rice varieties in Indonesia.
