Harmonious Co-prosperity, Everlasting Friendship

Forgot to mention in my last post that the slogan above is what Taiwan came up with to project its relationship with Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Tuvalu and Solomon Islands.

A scarcely believable website documents a meeting of these chums held in the Marshall Islands last year:

The maritime areas around Taiwan and its Pacific island nation allies amount to a cumulative 9.02 million square kilometers. These seas are home to vast oceanic resources and boast large amounts of natural gas and crude oil, giving them a high strategic value.

I dare say.

The captions to the two photographs above are:

“The president boards a boat to head to Eneko Island in the Marshall Islands to compete in a fishing competition among the leaders attending the summit. The president shows delight at catching two fish. (October 14, 2007)”

and

“President Chen and Marshall Islands President Note form one team in a fishing contest held for the heads of state. The pair beat out opposing teams, helping them to win first place. (October 14, 2007)”

Yeah, and I wonder how hard the others were trying.
