Pacific Studies Graduate Summer School and conference
The Pacific Program brings together scholars of Pacific studies from the Australia and throughout the region to attend a three-day Pacific Studies workshop in Canberra as part of the ANU Asia Pacific Week from 27-30 January 2009. The Australian National University is widely recognised as one of the world's leading centres of Pacific Islands studies, and its staff and students are dedicated to understanding the region’s history, politics, cultures, economies, international relations and strategic situation. Many are authors of key books and articles on the region, travel to the region frequently, serve as consultants on Pacific issues, and offer policy advice to governments and regional organisations.
Asia Pacific Week will give attendees an opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and forge networks with students from around Australia. The Pacific Program is supported by the Pacific Centre and State, Society and Governance in Melanesia (SSGM).
The Pacific Program workshop will feature 15-20 minute presentations from each of the participating students on any aspect of their research. In addition, a selection of ANU Pacific Studies staff will offer brief summaries of their current research. Guided introductions to research resources, trips around Canberra and combined Asia Pacific Week events will also be offered. Some participants will receive financial support for accommodation and meals. A partial contribution to travel costs will also be available to selected participants.
