JAPANESE STUDIES GRADUATE SUMMER SCHOOL
January 31 - February 4, 2005
The Japanese Studies Graduate Summer School (JSGSS) is a week-long program of intensive research activities designed to bring together PhD, research masters and, where possible, potential Honours students from around Australia.
The broad goals for the week are to provide a forum for building networks among postgraduate scholars through the exchange of knowledge and experiences surrounding the study of Japan. The program also aims to provide students around Australia with the opportunity to use the rich and diverse Japanese-language resources held at the ANU and the National Library of Australia. The JSGSS coincides with ANU's Asia-Pacific Week during which a range of evening social and cultural activities will be held.
Hosts for the program will comprise experienced Japanese Studies researchers and scholars drawn from among the ANU's staff. ANU has over 30 Japanese specialists across a diverse range of disciplines within the humanities and social sciences on its academic staff.
Discussion and Workshop leaders will include: Dr Tomoko Akami, Professor Jenny Corbett, Professor Peter Drysdale, Dr Carol Hayes, Dr Peter Hendriks, Dr Yusaku Horiuchi, Dr Shunichi Ishihara, Dr Duck-Young Lee, Dr Narangoa Li, Professor Tessa Morris-Suzuki, Dr Keiko Tamura and Professor Timothy Tsu.
