Asia Pacific Week at ANU is a week long program of intensive research activities designed to bring together postgraduate and Honours students from around Australia in an intensive week of research activities.
The ANU is a world-leading centre for Indonesian Studies. The National Institute for Asia and the Pacific has internationally renowned scholars of Indonesia in diverse fields including language and literature, art, film studies, politics, sociology and anthropology, development studies, economics, gender studies and music. There are around 80 postgraduate students–many of them Indonesian–researching Indonesia- related topics at ANU. The Australian National Library in Canberra and the ANU library both have large specialised collections of English, Indonesian and other foreign language materials on Indonesia.
During Asia Pacific Week, participants will have the opportunity to attend lectures and participate in seminars with many of ANU's leading scholars in this field, speaking on current political and social developments, methodological approaches, and ethical and strategic questions relating to research on Indonesia. Participating scholars will have specialised introduction to the two library collections. There will be time available for individual consultations, small group seminars/workshops for students with common related interests, and for work in the libraries. The details of the program will be finalised to reflect the interests and needs identified by successful applicants. There will be opportunities to participate in scholarly and social events with participants in the other streams being offered in Asia Pacific Week.
