To be held at the main campus in Canberra in the first week of February 2004, Asia-Pacific Week will feature a program of collaborative events, intensive courses and workshops that will bring together more than 150 scholars from Australia and the region. Participants will work with the ANU's internationally renowned academic specialists and acquaint themselves with the university's rich resources and research facilities.
Asia-Pacific Week will be co-ordinated by the National Institute for Asia and the Pacific (NIAP) in co-operation with the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, the Faculty of Asian Studies and the Asia-Pacific School of Economics and Government.
Intensive activities on offer in February 2004 include summer schools and graduate workshops on China, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Indonesia and the Pacific Islands, as well as an update on culture in development in Asia Pacific.
A rich program of events is being organised for the week to exhibit the ANU as a thriving centre for Pacific and Asian Studies. These will include keynote speeches by distinguished international visitors, film screenings, book launches, cultural performances and social events. Students and scholars working on Asia and the Pacific will be able to interact with like-minded people in associated fields. In addition to facilitating the sharing of experiences in research and teaching, the program will promote interest in the region among other academics, businesspeople, government officers, media professionals and the wider public.
