Academic staff in the Anthropology Department are full-time researchers dedicated to the professional training of doctoral (PhD) students in Anthropology. Academic staff, however, also actively participate in the three Anthropology masters degree programmes offered at the ANU:

and contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and honours courses in a variety of fields including Anthropology, Asian Studies, and Pacific Studies.

The Department attracts top student applicants from around the world. Currently, 28 enrolled doctoral candidates are from overseas universities and 13 are from Australia and New Zealand. As a special priority, the Department seeks to recruit and train students from the Asia Pacific region. Departmental staff, students and visitors take regular advantage of the numerous interdisciplinary contacts with scholars elsewhere in RSPAS,
