The Natural Background

Coring for pollen samples at Nees River bog, Australia

Understanding anthropogenic landscape and climate changes requires a thorough knowledge of biological and climatic processes, so identifying significant past natural processes and resulting ecological conditions throughout the Indo-Pacific region is both inherently valuable and key to archaeological investigations. This includes identifying species range and form change over time, and their responses to non-human environmental perturbations.
