Biographical Statement

Hyung-A Kim head and shoulders
Dr. Hyung-A Kim grew up in Korea and completed her postgraduate degrees of Dip. Ed at Melbourne University, and MA and PhD at the Australian National University. Her book, entitled Korea's Development under Park Chung Hee: Rapid Industrialization 1961-1979, was published by RoutledgeCurzon Press in 2004. A Korean translation, entitled Park Chung Hee ui Yangnal ui Gom [Park Chung Hee’s Double-Edged Sword], was released in October 2005 by Illchokak, one of the leading publishers in Korea. She is currently in the process of co-editing a book entitled, The Park Era: a Reassessment after 25 Years, with papers from the International Korean Studies Conference, which she organized in November 2004.

Research Interests

Korean politics and the mass culture movement.

Current Research

Politics of reform and generational change; civil society movement and nationalism.
